Ecube presents...

microphone in a storm of noise

October 7, 2003. Montréal, Canada

Spilling sounds and records into the street from ECUBE, this artist centre and gallery played host to an event of collaborative and solo audio events, including a laptop performance by Julie Rousse, a live performance of Camp's Socialiste (David Turgeon, A_Dontigny, and Jon Vaughn), a live performance of Vinyl Interventions (Marinko Jareb, Carrie Gates, and Esther B.), and solo DJ sets by Jon Vaughn and Marinko Jareb.

A terribly fun time...this event was held in a warehouse district near the famous "Silophone"...a bit hard to find, so we allowed a few hundred records to spill over onto the street outside the building! ECUBE was well-marked for the folks who came by. Many different communities merged, as did many intense experiences of the sounds presented.

the trio in action...

Esther is using a microphone made by Carrie out of a piece of paper, a contact microphone, and a sewing needle. She also used her lovely Fisher-Price direct-drive turntables to rip up her 45" collection!

Marinko played a wide selection of his freakier treats, adding the odd beat and then even odder ones. Spasmodic scratching et le français d'après le contexte essaie...!

Carrie used a number of her special sculptural records, blank & etched wax, and at one point, attached a contact mic to a record, snapped it in half, and threw it into the audience...
